Meet Yvonne Okwara Matole, the queen of authoritativeness, tenderness, competence and professionalism in the media industry despite her not having studied a journalism related course at the university.
Her Education Life
The now 40-year-old journalist attended All Saint Cathedral Primary School and later on joined Kianda High School for her Secondary School education. After completing her secondary school education with impressive grades, she joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to study a degree in Microbiology.
Okwara’s Career Life
Upon completing her studies, she secured a role at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation where she used to host a children’s show named Children Variety Show. At the State Broadcaster, she honed her skills in journalism and started excelling in the media industry despite her not having studied a communication related course at the University.
While at the State Broadcaster, Nation Media Group spotted her talent and poached her for a producer role at QFM and voice over artist gig at NTV business show on money matters in 2008.
Four years later, she was approached by Standard Media Group with a five years contract at Kenya Television Network, KTN, an offer she accepted without a second thought. Her contract at KTN lapsed in 2018, she declined to renew it for she had secured a role as a news anchor in prime time news at Citizen TV which is owned by Royal Media Services.
At Citizen TV she anchors prime time news and hosts news night show on Tuesdays. On Thursday’s, she is a panel member of the famous News Gang show alongside Linus Kaikai, Jamila Mohamed and Sam Gituku.
Okwara’s Family Life
On her private life which she keeps out of limelight, Yvonne Okwara is a family woman and she is married to Andrew Matole Konde.
Her husband, now aged 56 years, is a veterinary surgeon and the two met when Yvonne’s pet had gotten ill. They started dating and got married in December 2014 in a low key wedding at Crown Plaza Nairobi attended by invites only
