The incumbent Embakasi East Member of Parliament Dr. Babu Owino has raised sharp criticism against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for  prioritizing luxurious spending over meaningful development.

In a fiery statement,Dr. Babu Owino questioned the Governor’s financial choices, citing a report by the Controller of Budget that revealed shocking expenditures.

“How can a Governor spend Sh176.8 million on domestic travel? Kwani kuzunguka Nairobi ni this expensive?” the outspoken MP posed, adding that Sakaja’s administration seems more focused on indulgences than addressing Nairobi’s pressing challenges.

Where’s the Development?

While governors in other counties are channeling resources toward transformative projects, Sakaja’s administration is squandering taxpayers’ money on recurrent expenses.

“Many wonder why I’ve been so critical of Governor Sakaja lately. The answer lies in the Controller of Budget’s latest report. While other governors are dedicating funds to development, Sakaja is busy spending on recurrent luxuries,” Babu stated.

According to the vocal. Embakasi East legislator, the projects currently being launched in Nairobi are remnants of his predecessors’ efforts, leaving Sakaja with little to show for his term. “His best ideas revolve around parties, events, and vibes – nothing that directly improves the lives of Nairobi residents,” Babu added.

Nairobi’s Struggles Under Sakaja

Dr. Babu Owino painted a grim picture of Nairobi under Governor Sakaja’s leadership. He highlighted ongoing challenges such as the city’s worsening garbage crisis, rampant corruption, and the harassment of legitimate businesses by cartels.

“Life in Nairobi is now much worse than it was before Sakaja took office,” he lamented.

A Wake-Up Call for Nairobi Residents

The Embakasi East legislator urged Nairobi residents to reconsider their choices when the next election rolls around in 2027. He stressed the importance of accountability, asking, “Is this the kind of leadership Nairobi deserves?”

Babu’s remarks come after a report by Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o listed Sakaja among ten governors who failed to allocate funds for development in the last quarter.

As questions about Nairobi’s financial priorities linger, residents are left wondering: Is the capital city headed in the right direction, or is it time for a leadership overhaul?
